Your old scale is a bully.

STOP letting a number bully you around

My new client told me that she weighed herself almost every day - and was often frustrated by the number she saw.  She usually felt discouraged all day because of it.  She just didn’t understand why it wasn’t going the the direction she wanted.

We’ve all been there.

Just ‘losing weight’ could mean anything, from dehydration to losing our valuable muscle tissue.  We might be up or down a few pounds every day for various reasons, so aiming for a certain weight on the scale is like trying to hit a moving target with to prize if you do.

Here’s what’s up:  If you’re just tracking your body weight to see progress, you’re chasing a number that really doesn’t matter much.

So … what DOES matter?

-  Build, strengthen, maintain our muscles

-  Reduce our excess body fat, primarily our visceral fat

In other words, think about changing your body composition

To find out where you’re at now and be able to track progress that really matters, you need at least 1 good tool:  A Smart Scale at home.  These scales look like other digital home scales, except they use bioimpedance technology to read several important body metrics when you step on. The information connects to an app on your phone - which is great.  This way you can see your progress over time, across a variety of really important areas such as your muscle mass, subcutaneous and visceral body fat percentage, bone mass, basal metabolic rate, and more.

Most people who start with small, easy steps to increase their muscle strength tend to see their muscle mass go up and their body fat go down - within just a few weeks.  And they’re not just ‘guessing’, they’re keeping track of their progress so they can see what’s working.

Think about it:  If you swapped out a few pounds of fat for muscle, you would actually be more slim, your snug clothes would fit better, and you would generally look and feel better right away.  Not magical.  Just paying attention to what matters.

Of course we all want to look and feel wonderful. AND there are huge, foundational reasons to mind your body composition.

Building strength and increasing muscle offers a wide range of benefits for women and men, promoting physical and mental well-being, improving overall health, and enhancing quality of life. Here are some highlights.

Increasing your muscle strength improves:

- Physical function for daily activities

- Bone density

- Metabolism and weight management

- Mood and stress reduction

- Balance and coordination

- Mobility and flexibility

Also …

- Increased confidence and self-esteem

- Can help lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes

- Reduced risk of falls

- Can help menopausal women regulate hormones, alleviate symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings

What are visceral and subcutaneous fats?

Visceral fat is that fat collecting around our organs or ‘viscera’ deep in our abdomen.  This is much more damaging to our health than our subcutaneous fat (what you can see and pinch). Using our smart scales can help us detect this hidden, damaging visceral fat and track our progress as reduce both kinds of body fat.

Benefits of reducing visceral fat and subcutaneous fat:

- Reduced systemic inflammation, a big risk factor for many chronic diseases

- Improved metabolic health, less insulin resistance

- Improved blood pressure, cholesterol levels

- Lower risk of fatty liver, sleep apnea, certain cancers

- Improve movement, flexibility, joint health, energy levels

- Reducing excess body fat promotes continued fat loss

Ready to make real and lasting progress?

Don’t let that one number hijack your mood all day!  Swap out your old scale and start paying attention to what actually matters for your long-term health and joy in life.
